Position Summary

Trout Unlimited’s Development team is responsible for fundraising and relationship building in the following key areas: solicitation of major gifts; foundation support; donor cultivation and stewardship events and planned giving. This key Development team staff member is responsible for overseeing all operations for the Development department and assists in fundraising efforts throughout the organization. S/he will work closely with the Vice President of Development, members of the Development team, and fundraising partners throughout the organization to implement defined major gift program objectives. S/he will be a self-starter, have excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail in projects both large and small, possess the ability to problem solve and multi task, and provide proactive and enthusiastic support for staff. The position will supervise the Development Assistant position and is based in Arlington, Virginia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mange all operational aspects of the major gifts, planning giving and foundations programs, including the Coldwater Conservation Fund (CCF).
  • Support the CCF Managing Director, including group stewardship and cultivation strategies.
  • Organizes and leads prospect meetings to assure timely cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, follow-up, data entry, and tracking of new and current prospects.
  • Responsible for coordinating relationship management in netFORUM, recording and tracking donor relationships, strategies, projections, and activities.
  • Data mining major gift portfolios, including conducting additional research.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor protocols for all Major Gifts, Planned Giving and Foundation fundraising efforts, including related information systems.
  • Manage and track annual fundraising budget and expenses.
  • Track and report fundraiser annual metrics, including revenue received, solicitations made, and other metrics set by the Vice President of Development.
  • Track progress on various fundraising plans in collaboration with fundraiser lead.
  • In collaboration with fundraisers, create and update existing donor briefings and related donor profiles/research.
  • Conduct donor research on highly rated prospects and as otherwise needed.
  • Oversee all donor group engagement events, trip and activities, including managing logistics, assisting with invite and RSVP tracking, coordination with fundraisers and other staff to set outcomes, measures, and program agenda, and ensure that proper follow up is tracked and recorded.
  • Interfaces with IT staff to resolve CRM issues or suggest system enhancements.
  • Responds to ad-hoc requests for information from CEO, VPs and other development staff.
  • Supervise Development Assistant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of development support experience
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience
  • Able to organize and manage diverse activities, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Experience and dexterity in manipulating a CRM database
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and personable
  • Excellent communication skills via phone, email, and letters required
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Strong time management skills and practices
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook a must
  • Passion for the outdoors and Trout Unlimited's mission is essential
